Terms of service
Last updated: 2026-09-17
Effective from: 2026-10-02
Private beta. 8pixel is in a private beta by invitation. The company is not registered yet, so the name on these pages is a working name. We do not take payments.
These terms govern your use of 8pixel (“the service”), a website builder, reachable at https://8pixel.app. By creating an account you agree to these terms.
8pixel (working name)Email: contact@8pixel.app1. The Service
8pixel provides tools to create, edit, and publish websites. We reserve the right to add, change, or remove features with reasonable notice. The service requires an active internet connection.
2. Account and Access
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. To enter a paid contract you must be 18, or have a guardian's consent.
- Business customers are responsible for ensuring all users in their organisation comply with these terms.
- We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these terms.
2.1 If you hold the account for someone else
The account holder is our contracting party. We have no contract with the person the account is held for. You warrant that you may appoint us for that work. The account holder sees everything in the account, including details visitors submit on the published website. Ownership can be handed over to a member. The previous owner by default remains an editor until someone removes them.
3. Subscription and Payment
- Paid plans, when offered, are billed monthly or annually. They are not for sale during the private beta. The price shown on the plan is what you pay, in the currency you picked, with no signup fee and no hidden extras. Any tax is added at checkout.
- The subscription renews automatically until you cancel. We get in touch before a yearly renewal is charged.
- The plan starts when payment is complete. When you upgrade and complete payment, you ask us to start at once. You still keep the right to a full refund for 14 days under §12.
- Prices may change with 30 days' notice. The current billing period is unaffected.
- You may cancel at any time inside the app. You keep everything until the end of the period and then return to the free plan. Your website and your content are not deleted.
- If you are buying as a consumer you have the right of withdrawal set out in §12. Buying a domain is excepted; §4.2 explains why.
- Free plans may have limits on pages, traffic, and storage.
- We sell paid plans to buyers in Sweden. The prices and the tax statements are written for a Swedish buyer. The payment step for a plan or an AI pack therefore closes for a buyer located in another country. Other purchases, a domain for example, carry no such block, but they are sold on the same terms and we may refuse or reverse a purchase made from outside Sweden. The account, the free plan, and the website work everywhere.
4. Domains
4.1 What you are buying
If you buy a domain through us, we register it for you at a registrar (Name.com) and from there at the registry for the extension. For .se that is Internetstiftelsen. The address is registered in your name. You are its holder, not us. That stays true even if you stop using 8pixel. The price you see before you pay is the price of the registration, one year at a time.
4.2 The registration cannot be undone
A domain registration is performed the instant the registry accepts it. We cannot de-register the address, and the fee has already gone to the registry. The right of withdrawal in §12 therefore does not apply to the registration itself: before you pay you tick a box confirming that you want the address registered immediately and that you thereby lose the right of withdrawal for that particular purchase. The exception follows chapter 2, section 11, first paragraph, item 1 of the Swedish Distance Contracts Act (2005:59), transposing Article 16(a) of Directive 2011/83/EU. The right of withdrawal for your subscription is unaffected.
If you change your mind within 14 days anyway, get in touch and the address is yours at no further cost: we switch off the renewal and hand you the transfer code so you can take it wherever you like. The registration fee is not refunded, because it sits with the registry, but the address is yours and we charge you nothing more.
4.3 Renewal
The address runs one year at a time. Before you pay you see the exact date and the exact amount of the next renewal. We remind you at least 14 days before each renewal is charged, and we get in touch if a payment fails.
The renewal price is the registration price applicable at that time. We may change it with 30 days' notice, because the registries' own prices change and we do not control them, and you always learn the new price before we charge it. If you do not want to renew, switch the renewal off under Domains; you keep the address until its expiry date.
4.4 If you leave us
- If you have ever held a paid plan, the address keeps pointing at your website after you cancel. We do not take down something you paid for. The registration stands and the renewal continues for as long as it is switched on. If you never paid and only tried the free plan, the address pauses until you take a plan. The registration is unaffected either way.
- If you want to move the address to another provider you get the transfer code yourself under Domains. You do not need to ask our permission. For a
.se, Internetstiftelsen additionally requires us to hand the code over within five business days of your asking. If we do not, they give it to you directly. - If you delete your account we switch off the renewal and let the address lapse at its expiry date. If you want to keep it, move it before then.
4.5 Registry and registrar terms
As the holder you are bound by rules we neither wrote nor can change: for .se the Internetstiftelsen registration terms, for .com and other international extensions ICANN's rules for registrants, and in both cases the registrar's terms. Among them are the duty to keep your contact details accurate (an email address that bounces can suspend the address) and, for international extensions, a 60-day bar on transferring it away. The links are also shown at the purchase step.
4.6 Confirmation after purchase
Once registration is complete, we send a confirmation to your email. It states the domain, the amount you actually paid, the next renewal date, that the address is registered in your name, and a link to these terms. We also send it when the first year costs 0 kr.
5. Your Content
You own all content you create in 8pixel. By uploading content you grant us a limited licence to store and display it for the purpose of providing the service. We make no claim of ownership over your content. You do not own photos from 8pixel photos. §5.1 applies to them instead.
You are responsible for ensuring your content:
- does not infringe copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.
- does not contain unlawful, misleading, or harmful material.
- complies with applicable law in the country where you operate.
5.1 8pixel photos
8pixel offers a collection of photos, 8pixel photos, that you can use on your website. The photos come from free image sources (for example Unsplash, Pexels and Pixabay), from us, or are created with AI. 8pixel does not own the copyright in photos from free image sources; they are used under each source's licence.
When you choose a photo, it is copied to your website. You may use it on your website and in material that belongs to it, even if you later move the website away from 8pixel. You do not need to credit a photographer or source.
You may not:
- sell or hand out the photos as files of their own, for example as photo packs, prints or posters, without substantially changing them;
- use the photos in your own image library or a service like an image library;
- use the photos to train or improve AI models or for facial recognition;
- use the photos as a trademark, logo or business name;
- use photos of people in a way that is offensive, misleading or makes it look as if the person endorses your offer.
We choose the photos by hand, but cannot guarantee that a photo never shows a brand or a person who has not given consent. If you use a photo in advertising where a person or a brand is clearly visible, you are responsible for checking that this is allowed. We may remove a photo from the library, for example at a photographer's request. Photos already on your website are not affected, but we may ask you to replace a photo if there is a legal reason. If you do not replace it within 14 days, we may remove the photo from your website.
AI-created images are marked as AI-created in the image file. Do not remove that marking.
6. Prohibited Use
You may not use 8pixel to:
- Distribute spam, malware, or phishing content.
- Publish unlawful, offensive, or hateful content.
- Circumvent technical restrictions or access other users' accounts.
- Conduct activities prohibited under Swedish or EU law.
6.1 Reporting illegal content, and what we do about it
Anyone can report content on a website we host at Report illegal content. This is how we handle a report.
- You get a confirmation with a case number and a timestamp as soon as the report is received.
- A person reads and assesses it. We never remove anything automatically just because a report arrives, and we use no automated decision-making for this.
- Both the person who reported it and the owner of the content get a decision with reasons: what we decided, on what basis, and how it can be appealed. If the content is yours, you get the decision even when we do nothing.
- What we can do is remove or hide individual content, pause a published website, or suspend an account. Which one depends on how serious it is and whether it is repeated.
- Anyone who repeatedly publishes illegal content, and anyone who repeatedly files reports that are manifestly unfounded, can be suspended. We warn first, except where the content is serious enough that a warning would be the wrong answer.
- Impersonating someone else, or putting up a page made to look like it belongs to a bank, a public authority or another company, is removed without warning.
If you are unhappy with a decision you can contact us at the address in §15, take it to an out-of-court dispute settlement body under Article 21 of the Digital Services Act, or to court. The supervisory authority in Sweden is Post- och telestyrelsen.
7. Personal data and AI
You are the controller for data visitors submit on your published website. 8pixel processes it on your instructions under our Data Processing Agreement. The agreement forms part of these Terms. You are responsible for a privacy notice, lawful basis, and consent for optional tracking tools on your site. AI produces suggestions: always review AI-generated content before publishing it and do not enter sensitive personal data into AI prompts. What you write, and the content the AI is asked to work on, is sent to OpenRouter to produce the result. Text selected for translation may be sent to Google Cloud Translation. What is sent and to whom is set out on the AI page. If you would rather not use AI, say no when we ask and the website is built without the AI steps instead. If you already said yes and change your mind, contact us and we will switch it off.
If you buy a domain we pass your contact details, and for .se your organisation or personal identity number, on to the registrar and the registry. That is what makes you the holder. What is collected, why, and for how long is set out in the privacy policy.
8. Availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. Planned maintenance and unforeseen outages may occur. We are not liable for losses arising from downtime.
9. Limitation of Liability
The service is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages, lost profits, or data loss. Our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you have paid us in the preceding twelve months.
This limitation does not apply to damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, to personal injury, or to anything else that mandatory law does not permit us to limit. If you are a consumer, this section does not affect your rights under consumer protection law.
10. Intellectual Property
8pixel, its logo, product name, and all software are the property of 8pixel (working name). You may not copy, distribute, or build upon the service without written permission.
11. Account Termination
You may delete your account at any time via settings. Upon deletion, your content is removed within 30 days. Paid bookings, invoices, quotes and orders are, however, kept for seven years as accounting records. The Swedish Bookkeeping Act requires it, and an erasure request cannot shorten that period. If you have bought a domain, §4.4 applies. We may terminate accounts that violate these terms with immediate effect.
11.1 Switching to another provider
If you want to move to another provider, or to running it yourself, this is what applies. It is your data and you should be able to take it with you.
- Notice: you cancel the subscription yourself in the app. The notice period is never longer than two months.
- Transition period: after cancelling you have 30 days to move across. If you need longer, tell us and we extend it, and we also extend it where the move cannot technically be completed in 30 days.
- Taking everything with you: the export is under Settings, Advanced, Backup and move. It contains the whole website as JSON (
PortableSiteV1) with pages, sections, text, images, fonts and settings, a static HTML version you can host anywhere, a developer package, and your enquiries, bookings and orders as CSV. Images and fonts come as real files, with a checksum per file. Photos from 8pixel photos that are already on the website come along in the export. You may use them on that website under §5.1. - After the transition period: your data is erased within 30 days. Accounting records are kept under §11.
- What it costs: nothing. We charge no switching fee, no export fee and no data-transfer fee, on any plan.
We cannot promise that another provider's product behaves the way ours does, and we do not rebuild your content for a competitor. What we are responsible for is that you get all of your content out, in a readable, open format, in time.
Where the service runs: 8pixel runs on Convex and Vercel, both of which process data in the United States and in other regions. Which sub-processors are used, in which regions, and which transfer safeguard applies is on the Sub-processors page. If an authority outside the EU or EEA requests data you hold with us, we object where there is a legal basis to do so and we tell you, unless we are prohibited by law from doing so.
12. Right of withdrawal
If you are buying as a private individual you have 14 days to withdraw, counted from the day the contract was made. You do it yourself under Billing in the app, without needing to contact us first, and you get an email confirmation with the time it was submitted. The subscription stops at that moment and the full amount goes back to the same card. The law lets us deduct for what you have already used if you asked for an immediate start, but we do not. You may also use Konsumentverket's withdrawal form, but you do not have to.
Exception: the registration of a domain, for the reasons in §4.2. Read it before you buy, and read what we promise you anyway. With that exception, nothing in these terms affects your statutory right of withdrawal.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These terms are governed by Swedish law. Disputes are resolved in Swedish courts with Stockholm District Court as the court of first instance, unless consumer protection rules require otherwise.
Talk to us first if something has gone wrong; we want to sort it out. If you are a private individual and we still cannot agree, you can take it to the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN), arn.se, Box 174, 101 23 Stockholm.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. You will be notified via email or an in-app notice at least 14 days in advance. If you do not want to accept the new terms you may cancel your subscription before they take effect, at no charge; you keep access until the end of the period. Continuing to use the service after that constitutes acceptance.
15. Contact
Questions about these terms: contact@8pixel.app, or the contact form.
